May Happenings

It's been a pretty laid back week. We went and hung out at my parents' house on the Ranch. Among other reasons to visit, we needed to make sure the Don wasn't going insane with boredom after almost getting his foot chopped off by a tractor. See here for more info. I have a picture, but I don't think it would be appropriate.

We also went to our Ward's annual Memorial Day breakfast/program/softball game. A Heathman family favorite. These holidays are so much more meaningful when you get to spend them with Service members and our Ward is chuck full of them.

In other news: Janey will be 11 months old tomorrow (28th) and still gets tons of attention wherever we go. It doesn't hurt that she smiles at everyone and usually waves on command. She also LOVES to dance and has her musical preferences. Her favorite is 80's, but if Blue Grass is on, she'll sing too. Joe got a great video today, we'll have to see if he can get it here on the blog.

Swimming

We took Janey swimming for the first time this season. We bought her a new floaty to hang out in, she, unfortunately, didn't care for said floaty (read: threw a screaming fit). So, we let Samara use it. The funny thing is, Samara would only come in the pool while in the floaty and wanted nothing to do with her mother holding her. We look forward to this summer spending lots of time in the pool and at the beach.

Janey also had a doctor's appointment this week. She is now in the 75 percentile for weight (she's grown a bit from the fifth percentile) and is all healthy.

Palomar Mountain

If you don't know many people hard hit by the economic woes, look no further. It seems everyone I know has been either laid off or cut to part time. The silver lining is that we get to do fun things midweek without the crowds, like go camping on Palomar Mountain. It was beautiful and I recommend the site to anyone who enjoys the smell of campfire and brisk mountain air. Janey loved it and slept like a champ, but then she usually does snuggled in between mom and dad. The hike was great with different trails forking off the original so you can hike as little or as long as you want. I think ours was 3.5 miles. The only drawback was having to pack camp right after breakfast, next time we are staying longer than one night.

Walking Boycott

I forgot to post this last week. On May first Janey took her first steps. She took 3 or 4 steps 3 or 4 times then boycotted. I have to admit that her first steps were taken under duress, which is probably why she has been unwilling to take any more. We will try to stand her up to walk to mommy or daddy, but the instant we do she sits down. She knows exactly what is going on and has the "I don't want to and you can't make me" attitude.
She has, however, been choosing to stand on her own occasionally and yesterday in the bath she took a couple steps unprovoked. I give her another week before her boycott is over, then watch out.

Dinner at Costco

Becky and I took Samara and Janey to Costco the other day and we all had dinner from the samples. The girls loved it.
