Busy Bees

We've been super busy and I haven't had a chance to post any of the fun things we've been doing. I'm sure no one out in blogger land knows what I'm talking about. Anyway, here is a photo list of what we've been up to. You'll notice there are no pictures of Joseph ... he's keeping himself quite busy in the library studying for finals. He'll be done with finals this Thursday and we are so proud of him and can't wait to spend time with him.
Janey loves to care for her dolls, which is working out well in our sharing lessons. Since she has multiple dolls, they have to share bassinets, bottles, shopping carts and cuddles. Hopefully she's learning something.
Catching wakes in Grandma and Grandpa's garage.
At the new-ish Children's Museum downtown with Lila. Super fun.

Pretending to be a squid.
The only way she'll eat yogurt lately, so we are not eating yogurt for the time being.

Getting ready for church. That's as much as she would willingly put on.

Just being cute in her McDonald's tiara. Suits her pretty well, I think.
Playing in the sink, wishing she was in the pool.
Spent the day at Warner Springs Ranch with Grandma and Grandpa. We had so much fun.

And this was today in her favorite spot.
Thanks for visiting.

Wednesday

How is it that they can be so cute one second and the next they get into everything and make a huge mess of it all?

Life Lessons

Janey and I learn life lessons from each other everyday. For example, she taught me today that when I give her yogurt to eat so I can finish one last task at work, she will use it as body paint and I won't get that last task done anyway.
Janey learned that when she uses yogurt as body paint, she must be cleaned and be forced to where the backup clothes.
Janey also taught me earlier this week that headbands go with everything.

Tongue Kissing

Janey is at the stage where every hurt, no matter how imaginary, needs to be kissed. If she gets water in her eyes in the bath she makes me kiss both eyes. Well, yesterday at work I think she must have bit her tongue because she came up to me whimpering with her tongue stuck out ... so I kissed her tongue. It's great having a super power to make all things better.

Playgrounds Everywhere

Janey got croup again last week, was given an inhaler to open her lungs and had some super bad side affects including hallucinations. We stopped giving it to her after 4 days and fortunately she had kicked the cough by then. We are now crossing our fingers that she doesn't get sick anymore, because it doesn't look like we have medicine to give her if she does.
Since she's been so sick, we've been avoiding spending time with groups of children and that, unfortunately, includes parks and playgrounds where kids like to frequent. So, she's had to improvise. Anywhere we go she's finds playgrounds. My favorite so far (and I didn't get a picture) is a bike rack at my work. She made me sit with her while she balanced and swung all over it for at least 10 minutes. She was very sad when I told that we had to go back into the office. Fortunately, she found something to keep her entertained in the office (pictured above), so I didn't feel too bad.
Here are some other places she's found to play.
The driveway, tossing berries.
Living room of a house Tami and I were cleaning, running around in circles until she fell over, then repeated. The stroller in our living room.

Fountain at the SD Humane Society, collecting coins, then throwing them back in.By the way, we went to the doctor again yesterday because she got a rash from all the medication she's been on, so we had to get a cream. He told me that there wasn't a point anymore to staying away from other kids since it doesn't seem to make a difference. I feel like a weight has been lifted. We went to playgroup this morning and loved every minute, especially the slide. Hopefully this doesn't mean I've condemned my child to another round of croup.

Summer Begins in March

We love it when summer begins in March. No more wasting time figuring out what to do. I guess when cost of living is so expensive we have to have something fun to do for free. Hurray for the beach.
Janey is doing well. No longer sick and we're trying to keep it that way. The doctor basically told us if she gets sick again before the cold and flu season is over that she'll end up back in the hospital. We would like for her to stay out of the hospital, so we are staying away from groups of germy kids, where I can't control who she plays with. Playing with one or two other kids is fine with me because I can make sure they aren't sick, but no more nursery or playgroup until the end of the season. Good thing we live so close to so many fun things. I hate being the paranoid hovering mom ... can't wait for real summer.
Speaking of real summer, Joe got an internship with the public defenders office here in San Diego this summer where he'll work with either parents or children who are either separated or are at risk of being separated. We are super exited that he'll be around and that he gets to do something that he is really interested in. Good job honey pie.

And here is my little 1/16 Irish lass on St. Patrick's Day looking super bored because we had to be at work.

We HATE the Hospital

Three weeks ago Janey got croup. We went to the doctor and she got better, but kept the cough. Last week she got a high fever, still had the cough and spent a couple days like this on my lap. We went back to the doctor on Sunday and they gave her a couple breathing treatments, but her oxygen levels were too low, so our doctor got us a bed in the hospital. Turns out, she had a bacterial pneumonia, which she got from her viral cough hanging out too long and it attracting bacteria. Basically, the common cold went very bad. Without the oxygen tube in her nose her oxygen levels were at about 85%. Apparently, at 82% you can start getting brain damage.
The tube in her nose was giving her oxygen, the one on her toe was the oxygen sensor and the one in her hand was the iv giving her fluids and antibiotics. She HATED the tubes.

After three days in the hospital we finally saw a smile. The next picture was taken right before we left last night. The stickers on her cheeks were holding the oxygen tube in place.
We're home now, doing much better and NEVER want to go back to the hospital even though we are super grateful for the help we got. Thank you all for your thoughts, well-wishes and prayers.
